Fiorentina vs AC Milan

Today I went to my first pro (Italian Serie A) soccer game. It was quite an experience. Believe it or not soccer fans are much crazier (and more obscene) than American football fans. After my 9am class I went for a run and prepared for the day ahead. First we picked up our tickets at the FlorenceforFun office. Then we went to our beloved Billa for some bread and beer. The final errand on our agenda was to find cheap fan gear. We went to the street markets to look for some stuff. Eventually we found a stand that sold jerseys for 13 Euro and a team scarf for 10 Euro (Yes I bought another scarf, its what all the true fans wear okay.) Italians don't wear the replica jerseys, that's just the students. Anyway we were set with our fan gear and ready for the game. A big group of us walked over to the stadium together. It was not too far, about a mile and a half (I only know that because I have run to the soccer stadium as well as the track stadium right next to it multiple times.) The game was very exciting, and I'm not even a soccer fan. Our team, Fiorentina, scored first about 14 minutes into the match. It was Alberto Gilardino who got the goal. He is most likely their best player considering many fans were wearing his replica jersey. The score stood at 1-0 for most of the game. Even through the halftime show, consisting of a giant milk carton being wheeled on the field and stood upright for about 15 minutes. AC Milan did not do their damage until the end of the game. There was about 10 minutes left in regulation before Milan netted their first goal. The crammed section of Milan fans erupted. Not to worry, every row on each side of the visiting section was lined with security guards in case their fans got too rowdy. It was expected that they would score eventually, since they are a superior team in the league. However the biggest disappointment came during injury time (the 3 minutes they add on to the end of each half to account for sissy soccer players crying on the ground). Yup that's right, Milan won the game in stoppage time. Final score: AC Milan 2- Fiorentina 1. It was still a great game to be at because it was exciting, although disappointing at the end. Plus I got to see Ronaldinho play. David Beckham, on the other hand, did not play but we saw him warming up (ready to sub in) right in front of us.Very worthy of using one of my three class skips I'd say.
